Mimie Pitaro is elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

Pastor of Holy Redeemer Church, Mons. Pitaro (D-East Boston) becomes the first Catholic priest elected to the Massachusetts legislature. After voting against the repeal of the state’s Racial Imbalance Law, he is defeated in the Democrat primary in 1972.
